Pen & Ink: "The Straw"

A quick pen and ink, from an amazing photo of Darryl Strawberry. The '86 Mets continue to remain a team of myths and legends. Anyway this is an art blog. No sports talk. Maybe I'll do a mini-comic about Darryl Strawberry meeting Jimi Hendrix?

Pen & Ink, Photoshop: "Hot Cakes"

This one actually served a purpose! Yay! It is currently being used as the logo for a cake decorator. She is very good. And her cakes are very tasty.

Pen & Ink, "The Continuing Adventures of Jimi"

A little Jimi Hendrix action. I always wanted to make a mini-comic called "The Continuing Adventures of Jimi". This was a sketch for it. Maybe I'll start thinking about that again...

Cut n Paste: "Music That Doesn't Suck"

This is another fun one to look at. I was throwing out a bunch of music magazines and decided to cut out some of my favorite bands before they went in the trash. Then I pasted them together. It's a little juvenile yes, and looks like it might belong inside some 17 year olds locker. But it's awesome music. Can't that be enough? All the bands are tagged.

Pen & Ink, Photoshop: "Sparky"

Another class assignment, this one asking us to create the logo for a toy store that sells retro robots. It might seem like I like the color orange but I assure you it is purely a coincidence. Or maybe I'm secretly in love with the color orange. That would be weird.

Pen & Ink, Photoshop: "Ice Dragon"

This is for a children's book entitled "The Runaway Pizza and Other Stories". I have no idea if it has seen the light of day yet. It's pen and ink, then colored on Photoshop. I colored in the outlines of the drawing as well, giving it a very cartoony quality and allowing it to 'pop' more. This was inspired by the cartoon work of James Kochalka, who does the webcomic "American Elf" as well as many childrens books. The Ice Dragon has escaped from a book, and the people are trying to capture him and put him back in the book. Isn't that obvious?

Photoshop: "Wilco the Album"

Another class assignment. We had to use typesetting to re-imagine an album by one of our favorite bands. So I chose Wilco the Album, as you can see. Found some crazy fonts online, tweaked a few to fit the design. I really like the back of the album the best.

Pen & Ink: Psychedelic Tissue

Another pen & ink one. This was for a class assignment. Again, don't ask me what it means. It looks awesome. And it took a long time to do. Also, I'm gonna tell you there are some hidden messages inside, so you'll spend about 5 to 6 minutes looking until you realize I'm full of shit. But really, there are messages in there.

Charcoal & Marker: "Colors"

This is a fun one to look at. I could get all deep and insightful and talk about what it means, about how this is a man living in a 'black & white' world dreaming of color...but I think I'll just say it's fun to look at. I don't think it really means anything.
Used regular colored markers for everything, and then a bit of charcoal for the shading. Maybe he's getting high off my markers...

Pen & Ink: "House Side"

I thought I'd start this Portfolio Blog by uploading a pen & ink drawing, because that's my favorite medium. I find that I have the most control with the pen, I can make a line any thickness or thinness that I want and I can convey shape and shadow easily as well. This was drawn on probably the first nice day of 2010, back in March. Try to imagine Wilco playing, because I think I had my ipod dock outside blasting something.
